Our History

The concept of Miners Exchange Bank was hatched in the minds of several local businessmen in 1981. One by one, all of the independent banks in Wise County, Va. had been purchased by larger institutions. Seeing the need for a local bank, these entrepreneurs began raising the necessary capital to open a new bank that would represent and serve the people of our area.

Miners Exchange Bank opened for operation on July 8, 1982. The bank was very well received, and experienced steady growth in its early years. Miners Exchange Bank opened its first branch in Norton in 1988. Recognizing Wise County as an operational hub, the bank opened additional branches in St. Paul, Appalachia and Wise. With a desire to continue the growth of the bank, the Board of Directors elected to open a branch in Gray, Tn.
